2010 OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY CELEBRATION IN SPRINGBANK |

A few thousand local residents and students joined the festivities as Torch Bearers carried the 2010 Olympic Torch through the streets of Springbank stopping briefly at the Park for All Seasons. Participants were treated to hot chocolate, coffee, donuts and cookies while they enjoyed the 90 minute event hosted by local resident John Carroll. They ‘Get Ripped’ team did their best to lead in crowd in exercises to keep them warm and the morning also featured a performance by Springbank Centre Stage Dancers and thoughts from a variety of local past Olympians and students from both Springbank and neighbouring communities. The Springbank High School Band, Calgary Highland Bagpipers and Split Circuit Sound also entertained the crowd.

Together they have won several medals including a bronze at the Junior World Championships in Nagano, Japan last year and they will go for the gold as they participate in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in February. Rocky View’s Links to Learning Charity Golf Tournament |

Monday, August 23, 2010 Rocky View Schools' third annual charity golf tournament, Links to Learning, will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Links of GlenEagles in Cochrane. So far RVS has raised more than $40,000 in support of citizenship awards, academic scholarships, supplementary learning materials, extra-curricular activities, and a breakfast and lunch program. This year 20 percent of the proceeds from Links to Learning 2010 is ear-marked for bursaries, scholarships and awards sponsored by RVS' Board of Trustees.
